Cooking Forever!! (Part 2)

“And the winner of the cooking contest is…” announced the judge, “A very talented person. She is also quite young. None other than… Kayla Wilson!” 

Violet was shocked. “Oh, well,” she sighed. “Next year, I will…” 

Margaret was furious. “WHAT?! VIOLET DESERVES TO WIN!” 

Violet and Mr. Keane were shocked. “No, Margaret,” explained Mr. Keane. “It’s fine. Right, Violet? Yes?” 

“Yes, sure, it’s fine, Miss Margaret. I don’t really mind.” 

“NO! I’VE WORKED REALLY HARD ON THIS! AND SO HAS VIOLET! I PROTEST!” 

Kayla looked at Violet. Then she looked at Mr. Keane. “Violet,” she thought aloud, “Such a strange assistant she has.” 

Violet glanced at Kayla. “Margaret’s fine,” she said. “But sometimes, she overthinks it.” 

“Ma’am, have a seat, please. We will discuss it later,” said the judge. 

“Fine, but Violet was good—I mean, BETTER than Kayla.” 

Later, they got into the car. “Margaret,” said Mr. Keane. “You shouldn’t have done that. Remember, Violet has the option to fire you.” 

“Yes, yes,” sighed Margaret. “Let’s just get to our hotel already. It was quite expensive. I booked it assuming we would win.” 

They walked in and were surprised to see it was dark. “Hey,” whispered a man, “Get out! Now! We’re being robbed.” 

“Oh my goodness,” gasped Violet. Just then, a police officer appeared.  

“We’re here to inspect the crime scene,” said the officer. “Don’t move anything.” 

“Yes sir!” yelled Margaret.  

Everyone scowled at her. “Quiet!” people said. “The robber will hear us!” 

“HEY! YOU ACTUALLY THINK HE’LL HEAR US? I’M BEING REALLY QUIET!” 

The robber noticed them and saw Violet. He smiled. “You must be Violet Keane,” he guessed. 

“Y-yes?” Violet mumbled. “Why do you ask me? What do you want?”  

“A meal,” he said, “Cooked by you.” 

Violet ran to the car and brought back some leftover noodles. “I was at the California Cooking Competition today and made this.” 

The robber loved it. He left. “Strange,” said Margaret. “Very, very strange.”
